The Bead Vault is a unique collection of bead treasures,
tracing the traditional use of beads in Ghanaian societies
from naming ceremonies to funerals.
We explore contemporary bead production
and the use of new materials.
About
The Bead Vault is a NGO registered in Ghana to house a permanent collection of beads found, traded, made and used in Ghana. We curate special exhibitions, and research and record the traditions, names, and culturally appropriate usage of beads in all Ghana’s regions. The Bead Vault is creating a comprehensive bead encyclopedia of beads found in Ghana, and publishes books and articles on beads for adults and children. We develop and provide various curriculum on a wide range of bead-making and stringing methods and jewelry design, to be used in primary, secondary, and tertiary education. We also provide bead education and training to groups and individuals for empowerment and income generation.
